City of York Council’s EDU is charged with maintaining and developing the economic well-being of the city for business and people alike. Embracing the model of partnership, the EDU works closely with many other organisations in the city in a number of strategic industries notably science and technology (through Science City York) and tourism (through First Stop York) but working closely too with others to ensure the long-term success and vitality of the city’s diverse economy in terms of investment, training and social inclusion for business and individuals alike.

Higher York

Higher York is the Lifelong Learning Network for York and North Yorkshire, and is a partnership between Askham Bryan College, The University of York, York College, York St John University and The City of York Council.
Their goal is to ensure that learners on vocational routes have more opportunities in Higher Education and to speak with employers to establish their needs from Higher Education, and ensuring the courses offered by our partnership reflect the economic demands of North Yorkshire.

National Science Learning Centre

The National Science Learning Centre opened in Autumn 2005. Housed in a purpose built, high-tech venue at the University of York, the centre provides professional development for science teachers and technicians across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also performs a supportive role for the communications and ICT infrastructure for the Science Learning Centres network. The aim of the centre is to upgrade the quality of professional development on offer to teachers, technicians and support staff.

Youth charity The Prince's Trust helps change young lives. It gives practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 14 to 30 year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law.
