Science City York has a proven track record in successfully securing major capital investment to foster and develop a sustainable, high growth knowledge economy for York and North Yorkshire.


ERDF logo LeftEuropean Regional Development Fund Programme in Yorkshire and the Humber

In 2009 we led the bid to secure more than £21 million investment via Yorkshire Forward from the European Regional Development Fund in Yorkshire and the Humber:

  • £1.3 million is funding Science City York's ‘Specialist Services for Business Growth and Innovation’ project. Between 2010 - 2013 a team of specialist Business Mentors will provide 'embedded' coaching and mentoring for business leaders, managers and key personnel to help businesses across priority, knowledge-led sectors overcome critical barriers to growth. To read more, please click here

  • £19.7 million ERDF investment  will deliver nationally significant, transformational improvement to the assets and strategic potential of York. The investment is set to create 90 new businesses, 685 new jobs, and assist 697 individual ventures. By 2014, the project, led by Science City York in partnership with the University of York and The Food and Environment Research Agency is also expected to boost productivity of the region's hi-tech industries by £37M. Science City York Phoenix Centre

The Science City York Phoenix Centre is a pioneering, 2 year pilot initiative led by Science City York and funded by Yorkshire Forward designed to kick start the development and growth of a new generation of creative and digital businesses for the region. Independently housed within York St John University’s main campus in the centre of York, the Phoenix Centre opened its doors in April 2009 to provide affordable space for new creative and IT-based ventures, with access to specialist technical facilities and sector-specific business support, mentoring and training. 


Northern Way Investment

2007/2008 Science City York led on securing £2.8 million of Northern Way funds to deliver Science City York’s ‘Hub & Spoke’ Project, a major innovative and integrated infrastructure project developing new facilities aimed at supporting technology ventures in York, resulting in:
