Science City York works extensively in the
community promoting science and technology, along with
potential careers within these industries, through a number
of public events and initiatives.
Working with partners, Science City York aims to assist the
local community find out about contemporary scientific
issues, access skills and training to support future career
and progression opportunities.
Science City York’s community activities include:
York Festival of Science and Technology that takes place
every year in March, coinciding with National Science and
Engineering Week. The festival features a wide variety of
events for all the family.
Café Scientifique York is a monthly discussion forum, which
provides an opportunity for the public to come along and
hear about contemporary scientific issues in an open and
discussion orientated environment.
Science City York also works extensively with local schools
and colleges to organise other events each year.

around York, as well as providing you with the opportunity

Community Science is an integral part of Science City York’s
activity, promoting awareness of science and technology
issues amongst the general public. Science City York and its

Festival of Science and Technology
The York Festival of
Science and Technology is organised by Science City York and
other organisations in York. The festival aims to bring
science to life with a diverse series of fun and interactive
science and technology related events. Once again the York
Festival of Science and Technology will coincide with
National Science and Engineering Week, 12 to 21 March 2010.
It features a packed programme of special events and
activities. The central theme for the 2010 National Science
and Engineering Week is 'The Earth'. This year
also celebrates the International Year of Biodiversity.
Café Scientifique York
Café Scientifique is an informal evening of
lively discussion revolving around the contemporary
scientific issues of the day. Each meeting begins with a
short talk from an invited science-related speaker. This is
followed by an hour of open discussion. Everyone is welcome
to come and express their views, or to just enjoy a drink
and listen. No scientific knowledge is assumed and everyone
can participate. Café Scientifique takes place on the first
Wednesday of every month at City Screen in York and has
featured a wide variety of subjects from chocolate making to
Egyptology.
